Lecture Ruurd Gietema at Tongji University Shanghai, November 17th

13 November 2014

On November 17th Ruurd Gietema will give a lecture with the title 'Regeneration and Transit Oriented Design' on Tongji University.

The Big Plan and Beyond.

The speech will center around the topic of (re)generation and transit oriented development (TOD). After decades of development most of the cities are still under constant development. However the development gradually transfers from ‘speeding and outward’ development to ‘efficiency and inwards’ development. In the meantime, after decades of underinvestment in public transport, many national and local governments today are re-focusing on improving public transport to combat the social, economic and health impacts of car traffic congestion on their cities. This lecture will bring together these two phenomena and illustrate possible strategies via a selection of our projects in Europe, Russia and (Shenzhen) China.

Projects will include: Hafencity Hamburg, Legacy Masterplan Framework London, OZ Nature Urbaine Montpellier, The regeneration of Sungang Qingshuihe in Shenzhen and Bao’an Coastal Shenzhen.

The lecture will start at 18:30 in Room 106 Building A, Tongji Campus Shanghai.
